What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is the commonly used name of a chronic disease called Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the level of blood glucose remains too high for a long time period. The level of blood glucose increases when a hormone named insulin fails to regulate the level of glucose in the blood by making it a source of energy for body functioning.
The food we eat contains glucose that is an enriched source of energy for our body. So, the food we eat provides our body with glucose but it has to be moved from food to the cells so that it can be used as energy for body functioning. Insulin does the job of moving the glucose from food to the body cells. It means Insulin is the essential hormone that is responsible for maintaining the blood glucose level. Whereas Insulin is produced by Pancreas.
When our body fails to produce required insulin then the level of glucose in our blood tends to increase that causes Diabetes.
There are two types of Diabetes. Diabetes Type 1, and Diabetes Type 2 are the two types of Diabetes Mellitus. Whereas Diabetes Type 1 is rare as compared to Diabetes Type 2.
Let’s move ahead to know more about both types of Diabetes.
Difference Between Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2
Diabetes Type 1 is less common than Diabetes Type 2. Diabetes Type 1 occurs when the immune system tends to destroy the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. Whereas Diabetes Type 2 occurs when the body fails to produce the required amounts of insulin, or the body becomes resistant to the effect of insulin: Insulin fails to regulate the level of blood glucose.
